Lesson 3 of 4 · 8 min
Becoming a conscious consumer
We have power as consumers, individually and collectively, to support strong communities and a traffic-free world. Changing habits can feel overwhelming, so start with one product at a time.
Step 1: Educate yourself
Take a few minutes to measure your slavery footprint and see how the products you buy are touched by modern slavery.
Step 2: Use the right tools
The Department of Labor’s Sweat & Toil app shows which products and countries are most linked to child and forced labor. For fashion, Good On You rates brands on their impact on people and the planet.
Step 3: Choose certified, fair products
Look for credible independent certifications such as Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance, and support companies that pay a living wage. Every cup of coffee at The Freedom Café is sourced this way.
